Children Learn What They Live Love and Life Caring in the Family Family Spirituality Healing in the Family Family Defense

"SIMBAHAYAN" refers to the Commission on Marriage and Family Life Ministries, an educational and charitable service commission of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila. It believes that the family is the basic cell of both civil society and the Church and that the Christian family serves as the vital link between the Church and the Nation.

THE SIMBAHAYAN VISION
The Simbahayan Commission envisions lively and dynamic Domestic Churches where married couples, assisted by the Ordained Ministry and other agents of evangelization, are able to exercise the Prophetic, Priestly, Kingly functions, and other modes of loving service proper to the Ministry of Marriage. The term "Simbahayan" is a combination of three Filipino words:

SIMBAHAN
(Church)
THE UNIVERSAL CHURCH
BAHAY
(Home)
SUPPORTED BY THE CHURCH OF THE HOME
BAYAN
(Nation)
TOWARDS A COMMUNITY OF DISCIPLES
THE SIMBAHAYAN MISSION
Simbahayan aims to promote and coordinate the effective delivery of Family Life Formation to every family person who lives or works within the Archdiocese of Manila, adequate to the person's role at every stage of the life cycle. Simbahayan is guided by Biblical and Catholic Church teachings on the Family and by the Philippine Synods and Councils. Simbahayan maintains communication with the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines and the Pontifical Council for the Family.

FAMILY LIFE FORMATION
Non-formal education in family living is no longer sufficient in a world that is increasingly hostile to marriage and children. Supplementary and even formal education in family life has become necessary to ensure the survival and flourishing of the nuclear family. Family Life Formation is the work of imparting "familial wisdom" -- the principles, values, norms, skills and practices which every individual ought to uphold or live at various periods of his or her life, in order to be considered a mature and responsible family person, and an active participant of his or her basic community, the home. The elements of Family Life Formation are articulated in Simbahayan Commission's FAMILY LIFE AGENDA.
SIMBAHAYAN'S 'HOME' ON THE NET
Simbahayan is "at home" on the internet, too: simbahayan.org was "housed" by WEB PHILIPPINES on March 19, 1998, as a means of sharing family wisdom with you, with the hope that you can share some of your own insights with us. Our aim is to provide a continually available on-line reference for family life formation that is accessible not only to Manilans, but to all Filipinos and the global community as well. Your suggestions for improving this site are most welcome. Our pages are best viewed at 800 x 600 screen resolution with Netscape Communicator Pro 4.04, but are not unviewable with Internet Explorer 3.0. Most are still under construction, so visit us weekly. Four months after its launching, Simbahayan sa Maynila was evaluated and RATED AAA+ by PetersNet.
